When we started our search for a new home we knew it was more about the location rather than the house. You could alway create your perfect home, but you can’t change where it’s located! So when we found this house my husband knew this was HOME before looking in the house. The property and the location sold us.
This house was very different than our currant home, it was one level, no entry, basement or attic which makes a very different way of living. So before I was 100% sold we needed to brain storm and make sure we could make this work. We really needed to focus on the details.
If we were going to make this an open floor plan everything needed to function with our lifestyle. We were lucky that we were doing most of the work ourself so we had a plan, but we tweaked it as we went along. This is not something I would reccommend, but with every renovation project there is alway some unexpented problems that occur.
So the wall came down and we started making our vision a reality!
It was important for me to bring color and pattern into the tile I selected. It took me a while to find one I loved that didn’t break the bank. I think the vintage style and pattern I chose gives the kitchen the right vibe I was looking for. It also allowed me to introduce a bit of blue into our color scheme that is going to be predominantly black and white.
We didn’t intend to have an island this big, but the more we thought about it, it made sense. The island has many functions. Food prep, storage, eating and it’s the best for entertaining.
As I said function is very important. This window seat is used for many things, most importantly our dogs! They needed to have a place to relax and enjoy the view. When they aren’t using it you can find me sitting there curled up in the morning enjoying my cup of coffee.
They say the kitchen is the hub of a home so we gave a lot of thought into planning ours. Follow along on our journey so you can see the rest of our home
