Today I want to talk about lighting! Lighting is very important in a room, it’s both decorative and functional. I personally do not like recess lighting, I prefer decorative ceiling fixture and lamps are a must.

Table and floor lamps are one of the easiest and most affordable pieces to add lighting to your home. Before you start shopping you need to decide what type of lighting you are looking for, ambient diffused light, directional task light, or purely decorative light.

This is a great example of a mid century modern style kitchen. Look at the interesting light fixtures in the dining area and over the island. Most tables & islands have some sort of lighting above it and it’s nice to think out of the box. Yes you need the light for obvious reasons, but this is the perfect area to make a statement!
The right light fixtures can be an accent in a room. It can add interest,color, texture even style to the simplest room.

Each of the photos has it own style and unique light fixtures. Can you imagine the rooms with out the light fixtures? It would change the whole look of the space. I think when shopping for lighting you need to look at it as part of the decor, it should help enhance the overall look of the room. It’s OK if it becomes the focal point, sometime a room needs it!
