How to Style your Shelves

I have finally found the perfect bookcase for my space and I am excited to style it! In my search I was looking for something wide enough to fill the space on the side of my fireplace and just the right height.

So I thought I would share some of my tips for styling it.

How to style a bookcase, metal, vases, books, photo, artwork, plants, family picutures

I want to include things that are meaningful and special to me and my family, happy times and good memories. So I want to include some older family picture  because it brings me so much joy looking back through the years.

Make sure you have things of different sizes, and that they are evenly distributed throughout the shelves. You don’t want all large or all small items clumped together.

Books are a must! Stack things on top of books to add height in some areas, while stacking some vertical. Some of my books I love and some are very ordinary so my trick is to remove the paper jacket and expose the beauty of the book. Variety is key!

Texture  is one of the most important things to remember. Whether it’s baskets, wooden items or metal, make sure that everything is not smooth and shiny. Without texture, the whole thing can fall a little flat.

I love artwork in a bookshelf!  It doesn’t need to be a painting – it could even be a framed drawing that your children made. The personal touches are what matters.

A plant, flowers, shells… organic materials (like texture) add interest that nothing else can.

The biggest point to all of this is to “love the home you live in” and making each space feel like it’s yours.  Creating lovely spaces will bring joy to your whole family.  So take the time to really slow down and let yourself create!  It will help you to be a happier person and that will serve your family better than anything.

Let’s Start Styling!
