What a week it’s been! My heart goes out to everyone who’s been impacted by everything that’s going on right now, and I hope all is well with you.
Staying active has always been my way of keeping my spirits high, so I’ve been taking walks with my 2 pups as much as possible, organizing my home and planning future home projects.
This is a crazy time and no matter what this time brings, I want to be able to look back and remember I inspired a bit of calm and a bit of light right now.
So today I’m sharing some ways to stay positive and make the best of things while you’re at home. I hope this list of ideas will bring you some encouragement and stability over the coming days.
THINGS TO DO WHILE YOU’RE AT HOME
Look for ways you can help others or give encouragement. Reach out to neighbors, friends and family to see if they need anything. Call those who are housebound and might be lonely.
Spend some time in meditation or prayer every day. Meditation boosts your immune system, reduces stress and helps you see things from a higher perspective. If you haven’t already added meditation to your daily routine, this is the perfect time to start. Take a moment to Pause, Breathe & Smile.
Organize your computer desktop and delete excess photos on your phone. If you’re like me and have boxes of old photos, go through them and scan & upload the ones you want to keep to your computer.
Get organized and declutter your closets, kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, storage area or garage. Decluttering and organizing your home can help you reclaim your focus, elevate your mood, and concentrate on the things that really matter. Check out my post on organization here!
Find a new recipe online or in your cookbooks and bake something. I made bread for the first time! If you have little ones at home, you can get them involved, too!
It’s important to keep moving to keep your mood up and immune system strong. You don’t need a treadmill get outside and take a run or walk.
Read a good book. This is your chance to open all those books that have been piling up on your nightstand … or download something new from Amazon. Reading has the ability to help us forget our troubles for a while.
What’s something you don’t normally have time to do? Do you love to draw, knit, paint? This is also the perfect time to learn a new skill like photography, calligraphy, yoga, sewing, or flower arranging.
One of my favorite things to do is work on house projects. Do you have any unfinished house projects you could work on while you’re at home? You know we moved last year and did a total reno. Well, we took a break to enjoy the holiday so I’m hoping my husband will agree this is the perfect time to tackle the remaider things on the projects list!
Spend time in nature. Get outside as much as possible, notice the beauty, and breathe in the fresh air. With the arrival of spring everything will start coming alive again, reminding us that all will be well.
Take an online course and learn something new. What’s something you’ve been wanting to learn how to do? Are you wanting to start or grow a business?
Facetime with friends you can’t meet up with personally. I have been doing this with my daughter every day, I think this is the longest time we haven’t seen each other. Pour yourself a cup of coffee and pretend you’re together at your favorite coffee shop.

I will be planning my spring garden and order some seeds or plants online. Getting your hands in the dirt, re-potting and nurturing plants reconnects your soul with nature and lifts your spirits.

Refresh your spaces. Rearranging the furniture, restyling shelves and surfaces, or switching out pillows and rugs can make everything feel new again.
Catch up on your favorite shows and movies. This is a great time for a family to reconnect, everyone takes turns to pick a movie to watch together
Get your feelings down on paper. Spend some time in self-reflection and journal about this time. Don’t forget to also write down all the things you’re grateful for.
Spring cleaning. With the official arrival of spring this week, this is a great time to tackle all those big cleaning tasks like washing windows, duvet covers, cabinets, walls, baseboards, doors, etc. Check out my post about Spring Cleaning here!
Take time for yourself. Spend time in nature every day, catch up on your sleep and take long baths. As we adjust to our new “normal” our emotions are up and down. I haven’t stopped doing yoga, many of the studios are having on-line classes so their is no reason to miss a class.
Finally, how about some old fashion fun! Break out all those jigsaw puzzles and games and spend some time connecting with your loved ones. As I said above, I want to be able to look back and remember the sweet moments about this time.
I hope this list brought your heart some joy and reminded you that there are things to appreciate in every moment–even when you’re stuck at home.
One day, we’ll look back at this time with gratitude for the ways it made us slow down and appreciate all the little things we used to take for granted.
Our everyday may look different than it did a few weeks ago, but we’ll get through this together. My thoughts and prayers are with you, friends! Sending love and good health to you all.
